Mandarmani to Shantiniketan: Tourist Places Near Kolkata Within 100km

Mandarmani beach, a tourist spot within 100km of Kolkata

Tourist places near Kolkata within 100km cover a surprising range for a single day trip — river towns with colonial-era churches, riverside picnic spots, and quiet resort towns are all within a two-hour drive of the city.

Diamond Harbour, about 50 km south, combines a riverside setting with the ruins of a Portuguese-era fort, while Raichak, a similar distance away on the Hooghly, has developed into a popular riverside resort town with several properties built specifically around river views.

The Bandel-Chinsurah-Hooghly belt, roughly 40 km north of Kolkata, holds some of Bengal’s oldest colonial architecture: the Bandel Basilica, a Portuguese-era church dating to the 17th century, sits alongside Dutch and Danish-era buildings in Chinsurah and Serampore, remnants of the region’s history as a hub for competing European trading posts.

Gadiara, about 70 km from Kolkata at the confluence of the Hooghly, Rupnarayan, and Damodar rivers, offers open riverbank space and boat rides, and sees noticeably fewer visitors than the more established Diamond Harbour route on a typical weekend.

October to March remains the most comfortable season for any of these day trips, both for weather and because several riverside spots become considerably less pleasant during the monsoon’s high water levels.

Most of these destinations can be reached and returned from in a single day without an overnight stay, though Raichak’s resort properties are popular enough as a one-night stay on their own that many visitors choose to extend rather than rush the return drive.

Chandrawanshi Tour & Travels’ weekend getaway packages cover all of these within-100km options — see our full-day cab hire for the most flexible way to fit two or three of these into a single outing.
